Sjoerd Haver is an ambitious and young conductor. His passion for the orchestra originated in the North Holland Youth Orchestra, which motivated him to start taking conducting lessons early on during his Bachelor's degree Music in Education, under the guidance of Jacob Slagter and Lucas Vis. In 2019, he specialised in Orchestral Conducting through the Master's program at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg, where he was mentored by Etienne Siebens, Sander Teepen, and Ivo Meinen. In 2023, Sjoerd was selected to participate in the Dutch Conducting Masterclass with Jorma Panula. In the same year masterclasses with Sander Teepen, Danny Oosterman and Arjan Tien followed. At this moment, Sjoerd is coached by René Gulikers.

Due to his extensive experience as an orchestra musician, Sjoerd understands how group dynamics and orchestral discipline are intertwined with good ensemble playing. His comprehensive knowledge of the musical and technical challenges of each instrument, combined with thorough preparation, good conducting technique and a calm demeanour, enable him to lead rehearsals effectively.

Currently, Sjoerd is principal conductor of both the Chamber Orchestra Midden-Holland and the Valse Romantique Symphony Orchestra. He is also the artistic director of the Ensemble Project Foundation and a string section coach at the CREA Orchestra. In 2023, he assisted Joost Smeets in a co-production of Phion, Introdans, and Oostpool. In 2024 he will assist Martijn Dendievel with the Youth Orchestra Flanders and conduct the Fernorchester in Mahlers’ second symphony with the CREA Orchestra. As a substitute conductor, he is regularly called upon by other orchestras, including the Mozart Philharmonic Orchestra, Kennemer Youth Orchestra and the first division wind band of Muziekvereniging Soli Driehuis.
